By the way...your scenario has the VP using the fact that he accidentally shot an old friend as a political ploy. I never suggested anything of the kind. I said quite clearly that he shot Whittington by accident. I have no doubt this is true.
But after the accident, the rest of the story is management. These are seasoned political pros we're talking about here. They don't make many mistakes over this kind of thing.
