UN Reform Book on Amb. John Bolton's Reading List

The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations adds Joe Klein's "Global Deception" to his reading list. The new book, which criticizes current UN leadership and calls for restoration of Truman and Churchill's original vision, has developed a quiet following within UN circles.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 21, 2006 -- A new book calling for United Nations reform has attracted a surprise following among delegates to and employees of the UN, and it has now made its way onto the reading list for America's ambassador to the global institution.

The office of John Bolton, who last year was appointed by President Bush to serve as U.S. ambassador to the UN, has accepted a copy of Joe Klein's new book “Global Deception: The UN's Stealth Assault on America's Freedom” (World Ahead Publishing; hardcover: $25.95; ISBN 0974670146). The book made news in December when publisher World Ahead revealed that dozens of people affiliated with the UN had contacted them to request a copy.

“I'm honored that Ambassador John Bolton would agree to read a copy of my book,” says author Klein, a FrontPage Magazine columnist and New York attorney who studied at Harvard Law under Archibald Cox. “Ambassador Bolton understands that the United Nations is an institution desperately in need of reform, and I hope that he and the UN employees who have read my book will be able to continue bringing about change within the organization.”

In “Global Deception,” Klein writes that the UN's once noble ideals have been corrupted by a powerful clique of “globalists” who seek to transform the organization that Harry Truman and Winston Churchill created to serve the world's nations into a mechanism by which to govern them. This agenda, Klein asserts, has turned the UN into a coven of special interest groups and in the process pitted it against the world’s only remaining superpower, the United States.

Last December, World Ahead Publishing announced that UN personnel from Turtle Bay to as far away as China had written to the company to request a complimentary copy of “Global Deception.” The publisher subsequently submitted an inquiry to the United Nations' Department of Public Information to request their assistance in distributing complimentary copies to all interested UN employees, however representatives for Secretary-General Kofi Annan have yet to respond to the offer.

“Many conservative critics of the UN have focused on allegations of corruption and called for the U.S. to withdraw,” notes Klein. “I think that view ignores the fact that globalist ideologues have hijacked the UN and turned it into what it has become today. It's my hope that Ambassador Bolton and other reformers within the organization will continue making progress in restoring Truman and Churchill's original vision for the United Nations.”

Bolton rocks. Every time I get mad at Bush over something like selling ports to the UAE, I remind myself that at least he's appointed some truly stellar people to important posts.

While I don't know if even a strong conservative like Bolton is going to be capable of prodding the UN to reform very much, at least he's out there plugging away. And from the sounds of this release, there might be some others in the organization that feel that way but are afraid to come forward given Kofi Annan's hostility. (I suspect that if a UN staffer were seen carrying a copy of "Global Deception" under his arm on the way to the lunchroom, he'd be escorted out of the building pretty quickly!)
