Top war crimes fugitive Mladic arrested: report
Yahoo news ^

BELGRADE (Reuters) - Top Bosnian Serb war crimes fugitive General Ratko Mladic has been arrested, the official Serbian news agency Tanjug on Tuesday quoted a local television station in Bosnia's Serb Republic as saying.

No immediate confirmation of the report was available.

Tanjug said TV BN reported the wartime Bosnian Serb Army commander had been taken into custody in the Serbian capital Belgrade and was being transferred via the northeast Bosnian city of Tuzla to the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

An earlier report by Belgrade's "Studio B" television said Mladic had been located "in the area of Tuzla," which lies close to the mountainous border with Serbia.

Mladic was indicted in 1995 for genocide for the 43-month siege of Sarajevo which claimed 12,000 lives and for orchestrating the 1995 massacre of some 8,000 Muslims at Srebrenica, the worst atrocity in Europe since World War Two.

When it came to war criminals I take no sides. All sides were guilty of war crimes to deny so would be a-Kin to saying that Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Saddam did nothing wrong.

Don't try to bait me with what Clinton ordered, take that up with Democrats.

All I remember is that the kids, whether they be Serb, Croat, or Muslim deserve better then having to clean up the mess their parents made...

You are in the honored position of Pontius Pilate, wiping your hands of the whole mess.
However, there is an actual history and the Serbs were the ones trying to prevent the dissolution of the country. The others were nationalistic opportunists.

Mladich has not been arrested. The story is a hoax, as per B92 and the EUFOR in Bosnia.

The argument you have been giving me is the same type of rhetoric used by the Arabs to kill Israelis, African Tribes to wipe each other out...etc, etc. As long we got people focused on the distance past their will always be little wars.

I have no love for the Croats or muslim either! Don't ever give me the "Either you are with me or against me crap. I won't go for it.

I am getting impression you don't care about the future of the Balkans! What kid of future are you are giving the future in Bosnia? When is this going to stop when everyone is dead?

At least here, the Libs and Conservatives disagree and argue with each other but you don't see us rounding up in camps and slaughtering them.

The problem in the Balkans didn't start yesterday but rather in the 1200s. The players remain much the same. Maybe there isn't a right or wrong, in some people's eyes, but there is a preferred outcome and that isn't two Muslim states in southeast Europe.
Our best interests lie with the Serbs, or in a Serb-Croat coalition but that has proven very difficult, failing three times in the past century.
It all depends on where you want to draw the line on the Muslim advance between the Dardanelles and Vienna, or beyond.

Oh, in re-reading your post I see your reference to the "distant past."
OK, the 1200s are the distant past but Serbs know nothing but war since then. Belgrade has been invaded in 42 consecutive generations.
But it's their fault, right?
No right and wrong, right sure, but the Croats re-adopted their Nazi flag upon declaring independence.

"When is this going to stop when everyone is dead?"

It stops when foreign powers (which were involved covertly and overtly from the beginning) get what they want - which is ethnically pure and/or Serbless territories.

They use minorities/separatists against the Serbs.

They haven't arrested many of the killers of Serbs - even those who've confessed in detail, and without pressure, of committing liquidations on Serbs. So arresting every important Serbian military person or official, while overlooking (or only arresting a few token people who they usually let free) the others, keeps harming the Serbs and promoting ethnic cleansing of them and places where they've been exterminated - like Croatia.

Europe and the U.S. supported separatists and their lies against the Serbs because there is an anti-Serb agenda going on.

Serbs were the largest and most ethnically cohesive people of the former Yugoslavia, but the western powers wanted it broken up into smaller pieces, and therefore had to kill and ethnically cleanse the Serbs away from the statelets while weakening Serbia so it can't dominate or draw them back into its sphere.

No kidding...I know that.

I just hate to see kids being brought to hate and kill other kids because of the Nationality/ethnic make-up of the parents. What a waste.

I do know the Serbs are the majority and they just want to get on with there lives. I don't judge all Serbs, in fact I had no problem with them when I was there. The kids were helpful locating mines, I just want a better future for them. I don't want them to have to put up with the crap a previous generation of all Bosnians has left for them.

However, I will concede that Kosovo is being robbed by the Albanians

See post 51...I hold no ill will against the average Serb for what a minority of Serbs has done in their name.

Its the average Serb who wants to live in Peace I care about.

Beautiful dreamer. Pollyanna. Give peace a chance. Blah, blah, blah.
If you want peace, you arm the Serbs and look the other way while they annihilate the Muslims. As for the Croats, they got what they wanted while the West bottled up the Serbs.
If you want eternal war, you show sympathy to the Muslims and help them so they can turn on Christians when they have the numbers and the arms.
That's the lesson of history. Leave the Serbs alone and the Muslim advance stops south of Serbia.

It was a 3-way civil war - 4 if you count the moderate Muslims in northwest Bosnia who resisted the Sarajevo regime (they were followers of Fikret Abdic).

Serbs were fighting against Croats and Muslims who wanted to kill them off. You can't fight those kinds of wars neatly.

Plus, the people you named - such as Hitler - were involved in much, much, much greater killings and/or larger wars than the Balkans wars which were only in small parts of the former Yugoslavia at a time.

Hardly anyone here talks about the 800,000 Tutsi civilians murdered in Rwanda in only 100 days, which happened while the Bosnia war was occuring. The entire Balkan wars of the '90s didn't kill but a fraction of that and over several years, and including mostly militants.

"Its the average Serb who wants to live in Peace I care about."

Yes, but let me tell you that many of the Bosnian Muslims (Croats, Albanian Muslims, etc.) will kill off or ethnically cleanse the Serbs, including the children, when and if enabled. They are a greedy, thuggish people - a fair percentage of them - who want Bosnia all to themselves - and feel entitled to all of it, partially due to the propaganda.

What this video report:

Should be "Watch the video report".

It tells of the foreign Mujahadeen still in Bosnia. Shows how Alija Izetbegovic (who was said to be peaceful and for a multiethnic Bosnia) welcomed the foreign fighters.

Shows the foreign fighters within the ranks of the Bosniaks and fighting on their own.

Shows Bosniaks abusing and killing Serb POWs, and them destroying the interior of a Serbian Orthodox church - laughing and smiling as they shoot at the religious icons and tear things apart.

Remember these were the same people described as being innocent and for multiculturalism.

Beautiful dreamer. Pollyanna. Give peace a chance. Blah, blah, blah.

I am a vet, a no sh*t a real vet.

All you doing is proving to me that the Libs in the Clinton Administration were right!

I am a realist, When I was there Serbs, Croats, and Muslims told the translator in my Unit they are "waiting for us to leave so they can start killing each other again"...You can't make that stuff up.

That just have to stop. If we have to go in and build walls to seperated everyone so they can all get along, then so be it. If you want to act like children then I will treat you as such.

I am no fan of the Muslims either, where did you get that from?

The seperatism was revived by the Communists as they realized that it was their only chance to hold onto some political power, albeit over a much smaller slice of the former Yugoslavia.

The West's ineptitude made things even worse by refusing to allow the Serbs in Bosnia or Croatia any level of self-determination while demanding it for the Muslim Albanians in the Serbian province of Kosovo. It's little wonder that so many people compare this to the 1938 appeasement in Munich.

It didn't help that this largely came to pass while the US was governed by the most unethical government in its history with a pack of diplomats as completely inept as Albright and Holbrooke.
