In 2002, Jim Oberweis, a republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, in Illinois said, "I'm strongly pro-life. I think that abortion is murder. However, I don't think that the government should do anything to restrict abortion rights." I asked a few people, "What's the difference between that and what he would say if he was pro-choice?" We all agreed that there's no difference. He ran in a three-candidate primary, and he was second, with 30%.
This year, Oberweis is running for governor, and he says that he's strongly pro-life. In the primary, I'll vote for St. Sen. Bill Brady. He has a voting history, in the legislature, of voting pro-life.

If abortion is murder, murder is defensible only in self-defense.

People are generally aware of being raped (some are drugged).

We allow "brain-dead" people to be put to sleep legally and no one seems to have a problem with this.

"Brain alive" should be the minimum standard for which a guardian could consider abortive procedures, leaving all normal abortions off limits except for self-defense. If this isn't the standard, we can't allow "brain dead" people to be killed if consistency is important.
