I would say better than 90% of Southerners never owned slaves

When I was growing up with my parents and my two sisters only 20% of the people in my family owned a car. But 100% derived benefit from it.

Your response is a good one; and a Law of Economics...you of course realize that all Americans, Brits and French as well as many other Europeans benefited from Slavery...as well as indentured servitude. Also, the many dangers that coal miners from my family in Virginia, dug deep coal to fuel America... I kindly submit to you that is not my meaning... My Great and Greater Grandparents worked in coal mines a 100 times less safe than todays, and almost all the coal went North... Action, reaction! I f we could have Grown Cotton in western Virgina, I know they would have!

The South was already moving away from Slavery approaching the 20th Century...and that the real Racism and Hate manifested itself from the end of the Civil War...and was aggravated by the Stupid Southerner and his conspirator's, J.W. Booth who Assassinated Lincoln. The South Lost its best friend to ease Reconstruction...and General Robert E Lee was destoyed by hateful and angry vs the Hell brought to the South by the Greedy and totally self anointed Carpetbaggers, who displaced all the small Southern families from their properties, and used the deprivation of the Southern States from a horrible civil war, and the Ignorance of many blacks to ruin so many lives in the South...

The name Scalawags was a big F word in my Moms and Dads house, and most others...many Southerns had to become sharecroppers on the very land they had paid dearly for in blood and sweat, and treasure...the South is winning the War now some 141 years after Appomattox! The Right to Work Laws are winning the day, and more and more Red States prove every day why Conservative principles are superior to the FDR days of Socialism...Hard, and productive work made the South and it has no Color...

One Anecdote to tell you from my life as a Son of the South, whose Great Great grandfather was a BG General in the Confederacy... as a child growing up during Jim Crow Era that concerned me, and yes scared me. In our house, my mother who was a stay at home Mom, hired a lovely Black Maid to come to our home two or three days a week...Oh boy, she needed the help with all my brothers, I was the Oldest and got away with nothing...we had a normal, healthy life, a very respectful house, a Christian home where being a Southern Gentleman, and Politness, and regards for all people was demanded... Louise, was a friend and our family loved her and she loved us...there was no hint of Race until, being the eldest, I was allowed to take the Bus to town to the YMCA, and Louise was sitting in the back...I walked back to sit with her, and she told me to go up to the front that I would be more comfortable... wow it hit me cold, and I hated it, it made no sense to us kids! Yes, there was all kinds of hate from some as always...I lived in Pine Bluff, Ark in the early 60's and I knew at twelve Jim Crow was just wrong!

Please, know that in my heart, all I wish for is for those who will help themselves if able do so, and that those that won't don't get my change! Nuf said!!!
