A governor proposing record spending increases, in fact, spending $5 billion more than the state believes it will take in, and the Democrats saying it is not enough, and that they need more taxes.

Where is the "redux" ?

Schwarzenegger got spending under control in his first budget, proposing a $76.1 billion budget, only a $100 million increase in spending over the year before, which was the smallest increase in government spending in recent memory.

For the record Davis proposed a $96.4B budget for 2004/2005. Schwarzenegger proposed a $99.2B budget for 2005/2006.

That was a $2.8B, not $100M, increase in proposed spending or about 3% larger than Davis' proposal. At the time the Wilsonegger gang made their 2005/2006 proposal, California actually needed to decrease its spending by about 11% from 2004/2005 to 2005/2006 in order balance the budget. The gang went on to borrow $15B to help pay for the 2005/2006 budget increases.

Me suspects that Assemblyman Haynes was playing fast and loose with the facts, a staggering 280% difference in magnitude, to accomplish a partisan gain. Typical for California's political class, whether Democrat or Republican.
