MILWAUKEE -- President Bush and President Vicente Fox of Mexico exchanged ideas Monday on how to stop violence and improve security along the two countries' mutual border, the White House said.
Press secretary Scott McClellan said that Bush telephoned Fox while traveling here to give a speech and said the pair "talked about working together" to improve conditions that have been a source of friction between the two countries.
McClellan told reporters that Bush has designated Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff to talk to his counterpart in Mexico about the problem and said that Bush and Fox also talked about pending immigration legislation in Congress

i remember when he said this, it was notable since it was obvious he was a big-business, 'compassionate' conservative. Still better than gore and electable as well, but no illusions.
I believe he said this about the GWBush.com web site, which is now gone.
The Bush Administration doesn't WANT to punish employers who break the law.
It's not all about the money or manpower. Why does Bush refuse to accept the free border patrol the Minutemen are providing? He wishes they didn't exist, and has always referred to them as "vigilantes". What a crying shame.

Just Google it. It's been all over the net for years. He made the comment about a web site that was mocking him.
Presidential contender's reaction to parody Web site backfires

If we had a workable system, then we could place burden on employers as part of the overall system. If we had a major fence/barrier and all immigration laws were enforced, then I would have no problem with going after employers responsible for hiring illegals. With the border open and other immigration laws being ignored, there really isn't enough manpower to force the employers to comply. LE resources are just spread too thin with the chaos we have now.
If we stopped enforcing all traffic laws for years, and then tried to enforce only speeding/red light violators, without a new system in place we would not have man power for that either.

Belated ping!
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off this South Texas/Mexico ping list.
Bingo. The page you link to describes exactly what Bush and Fox are really discussing... essentially, a borderless North America, with no real border between Mexico and the US and Canada and the US.
If this happens, we will not make Mexico more crime free... we will become more criminal. We will not make Mexico more democratic, they will make us more Socialist.
If you mix dog squeeze with ice cream and eat it, it always tastes more like dog squeeze than ice cream.
Just meeting the American President that regular Americans can't meet.
Two foxes talking about gaurding the hen house.
The problem , like always is the opportunity to commit fraud. Look at Katrina - 900K of the 2.5 mill who applied are fraudulent.
Unfreaking real.
It is sad isn't it????
Thanks for your input. I would still like to see this properly sourced. If true, for me it would explain a lot about why Bush does what he does. Anyone who believes there ought to be limits on freedom is someone who cannot be trusted.
Bush's Amnesty Plan has zero chance of happening, but it hasn't stopped the President from pushing his ludicrous plan. After their cards expire in 3 to 6 years what then? This is the same dog and pony show pushed in the 1980's that was supposed to take care of this problem back then. It like the President's plan had no end point in this open border policy. If we are hit because our borders are porous, it's President Bush and this Congress that should be held accountable for this security debacle.
That's a load of crap, and that's why people are eternally perplexed on this issue.
It's important in this forum, and important near the borders...but that's about it.
If you are going to believe in polls (which we generally and unilaterally discredit, unless of course we agree with their findings), immigration is considered to be an important issue by roughly 5% of the America people.
Got it. Thanks for your help.
Hardly. Immigration is not that big an issue to the general public yet.
