Wal-Mart ordered to carry 'morning-after' pill [great interview by conservative]
MSNBC ^ | 2/20/2006 | Tucker Carlson transcript

Posted on 02/20/2006 7:59:43 AM PST by XR7

Should the government really be telling businesses what products they can stock on their shelves? That‘s debatable, but it is happening.

Wal-Mart was ordered this week by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy to carry the morning after pill. It‘s an emergency contraceptive and a commercial one. The directive came after three women, backed by abortion rights groups, sued Wal-Mart to carry the pill in its Massachusetts stores.

Dr. Rebecca Guy is one of those women. Dr. Guy, along with her attorney Mr. Sam Perkins, joined Tucker Carlson to discuss the case.

CARLSON: Doctor, why should government be telling businesses what they can and cannot sell? Or why should anyone be forcing businesses to sell things they don‘t want to sell?

...You don‘t own Wal-Mart. I mean, you‘re not—right. You don‘t have a business relationship with Wal-Mart, I assume. Wal-Mart is owned by its stock holders. And so why shouldn‘t they get to decide what Wal-Mart sells? I guess I‘m missing this.

...But she can go somewhere else and buy it...How is it that you get to choose what a store sells? You could make the same argument about grocery stores. I need to eat to live, right? But I‘m not allowed to tell a grocery store what has to sell, and neither is government—yet.

You don't know that to be the case, you're just positing a "what if".

Which one is the what if? There would be a heavy disincentive for women to file fake lawsuits alleging damage from the pill. that disincentive would not exist here. Those are facts. I did not comment on whether Plan B is dangerous, just on whether we can use Britain as a lawsuit bellwether. We can't, period.

Sigh all you want. You said something was hypocrisy that clearly isn't hypocrisy. If you don't want to ever have your statements challenged, you need to find a new forum to post to.

I'm not sure you're following who said what in this thread. And if you are, your comment makes no sense to me. I still have no idea what your view is and only an iffy idea of what you might or might not think my view is.

Except, that I regret using the word idiot and recognize that my post would have better communicated what I wanted to say if that one word were removed, I stand by what I said. And I have no idea on what basis you take issue with it.

The beginning of my post that you responded to was a quote from someone elses post that I was responding to. Well, nevermind; I'm not even sure that is part of what you misunderstood.

OK. But how's about the bring out the pill like Ferrel's used to bring out a Zoo?

(For those missing the cultural reference, Ferrel's was a California ice cream store chain. The Zoo was a huge and series ice cream sundae, enough to easily feed a dozen or so, that after a loud public address system announcement, the ringing of several big bells, and a frigging fire engine siren, was brought out carried on a stretcher by two crazed employees at full sprint and run up and down every space between every table before being delivered to the target.)

Granted, they may only sell one per store that way, but it would be on the shelves as mandated...

You are correct, I misunderstood your point. My apologies for the friendly fire.

Wal-Mart is owned by its stock holders. And so why shouldn‘t they get to decide what Wal-Mart sells?

And have they even been consulted?

I work there, and no one has asked me! I sure wouldn't vote to carry drugs specifically made to kill babies!
