Alan Simpson: Cheney Coverage Was 'Crap'
Former Sen. Alan Simpson blasted the media's obsessive reporting on Dick Cheney hunting accident on Sunday, saying reporters typically focus on nothing but "controversy, crap and confusion."
"How are we to trust [the press], after a whole week of absolute dribble, and babble, and people, you know, interviewing themselves," he told "Fox News Sunday."
Noting that Washington is filled with "good people doing good things," Simspon fumed: "You'll never find it if you just follow the Washington media. You'll never know the good. All you get is controversy, crap and confusion."
Simpson said reporters ignored the only real news in the Cheney story because of their cultural biases.
"There is a human element here that got lost in the perfect storm of people who don't like Cheney," he explained. "They don't like hunting. They don't like guns. They don't like people who kill birds and eat them. I mean, good grief."

LOL... That's true!
bump
This story turned out great, though. The old dude Whittington is ok, Cheney is ok. That @ss clown David Gregory made a complete fool of himself. Just think how he must be seething at all the commentary from the right about his "performance" last week. I don't find McClellan all that impressive, to say the least, but man he sure set the trap for Gregory. What a preening ninny. Really made fools out of the press.
I watched that interview, and got a real kick out of it. He is so right about the MSM, they offer nothing except "controversy, crap, and confusion". The real news story last week was Al Gore and his case of oral diarrhea. The MSM of course didn't want anyone to even think about that.
LOL! So very true.
It wasn't just from the right; that's probably what bothers Gregory the most; but Mary Matalin slapped the crap out of him and Maureen Dowd yesterday on MTP.
I was thinking last night about the difference in the way they reported 9/11 and how progressively they have gone downhill since then; I thought it had peaked with Katrina; boy, was I wrong.
I miss Senator Simpson. He spoke at my high school graduation. (Wyoming) He has his head on straight.
Any hope David Gregory had of rising further in his career he killed last week.
Thanks for the new tagline!
I just barely caught the last minute of the MTP thing. When do you suppose the wheels came off? I think it was FLA 2000. That's when the loony left finally went completely insane.
I never thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right.
But here's some insight from Simpson on that:
And let me tell you, if anybody thinks if this had happened to anybody else in America, it would have been like a sparrow belch in a typhoon.
WALLACE: Fair to say that your friend doesn't have much regard for the mainstream press, sir?
SIMPSON: I tell you, no. I think he has a high regard for the press, but he has a dismissiveness to stupidity. And where it started, where it started was when he and Colin Powell and Pete Williams, their press guy, when he was secretary of defense, answering questions on the first Gulf War, questions like when will you attack, where will the attack take place and how many forces.
Now, you've got to have rock for brains to ask questions like that. And I think at that time he just thought if they're goofy like that, you know, why not just stay away from them.
***Maybe that's when they started going mad and we missed all the signs.
BTW, this is a great quote from Simpson:
And let me tell you, if anybody thinks if this had happened to anybody else in America, it would have been like a sparrow belch in a typhoon.
I love this man.

The press hurts us in two ways.
By reporting forever such non-stories as the Cheney hunting accident just to bash Republicans.
By not reporting stories that would have a huge impact on this whole country if the truth were reported objectively on such matters as Able Danger.
