The editorial is only availible to NYTimes paying costumers. The editorial in today's local paper by Bob Herbert of the times had just one line of any note ..."This story is never going away.Harry Whittington is Dick Cheney's Monica....This will stick to Cheney like Crazy glue and that's bad news for the Bush administration."

FOX's position is clearly not the same as the rest of the MSM, and anyone who dismisses the body-blow FOX's existence has struck against the media is deluded. The fact that the rest of the media snarkily refer to FOX as they do only proves that the rest of the media are all in bed together. (Someone posted a cartoon of a republican elephant in bed with a woman labelled FOX and in the next bed, a republican donkey is in the sack with CBS, CNN, ABC, NBC, NYT, etc, all of whom are shouting "Slut!" at FOX. Sums it up perfectly.)
The MSM are dying as the sole interpreter of the facts, and they know it, and anyone denying it is whistling past the graveyard.
Well .. if the story is never going away .. it will prove once again that the old media still has a tin ear when it comes to the public's opinion of the event.
According to Chris Wallace today - Cheney's numbers are still good - the general public is not turning away from Cheney and Cheney is not a drag upon the President's numbers. 51% of the public did not have a problem with the incident. So it turns out it just the old media who has the problem.
If they continue this .. they can kiss 2006 goodbye NOW!
I think your mother is right. When it was still a rather new story my 20 year old granddaughter was listening to the Wash. press corps question the press secretary. She was laughing hysterically at the questions and the ignorance displayed by the press, and she is not particularly politically astute.
I think they are trying to cause Cheney to have a heart attack. Moonbats love to cause death.
"How long can the press keep it up?"
Until they loose all readers. They are doing a fantastic job of sending thier customers elsewhere.
Does he really believe people are as interested in a hunting accident story as they are in a story about sex?
I think a revival and a through review of Ted Kennedy's negligent homicide of Mary Jo Kopechne would be MUCH more interesting to the public. I would like to know how much money various people were paid, for one thing.
Cheney's going nowhere...especially over this trivial incident.
The MSM is beyond pathetic...and Herbert is their King.
An advznced and terminal case of wishful thinking.
i ain't the brightest bulb on the string, but I wouldn't call anything written by Peggy Noonan "dumb."
No Peggy, Most people are satisfied Iraq is being handled. Maybe not aggressively enough, but improving.
Some things that can bring up those poll numbers.
First: Veto a few of the outrageous spending bills, and restore some fiscal responsiblity.
Second: Secure the borders, declare the "Guest worker" program on hiatus until after the borders are secured.
Third: Drop the "Religion Of Peace" mantra and declare it is time for Islam to stop killing innocent people.
The poll numbers are down because even the Rino's are finding it too easy to not support GWB. He is looking for support from other places than his base and is paying the price.
Since the publication of The Third Wave, the rise of 60+ channel cable in the 1980's, the rise of paid proprietary online services in the late 1980's, the arrival of the public Internet in the middle 1990's and the arrival of 200+ channel low-cost satellite TV in the late 1990's has fulfilled Toffler's prophecy once and for all. And the MSM has suffered because of this very change, since people can now fact check to see if the MSM is telling the truth.
I thought Monica going down on the Clintoon in the Oral Office was no big deal to the 'Rats and the MSM. I thought it was all an evil conspiracy manufactured by Ken Star.
He gets paid to write this?
Her conjecture that Cheney will leave because of this trivial incident ain't exactly "smart".
