it is stupid to give the opposition anti-War 'rats ANY issue where they can look stronger on defense and homeland security than the President.

It certainly is stupid, very stupid IMHO. Putting a Arab owned company in charge of American ports may be safe if what I have read about the people who will actually operate the ports is correct. But it's an absolute disaster from a public relations standpoint.

Allowing this sale to go through would just be tossing the Democrats an underhand slow pitch for them to hit out of the ballpark. National defense/homeland security is by far the Repubs strongest point in the minds of the general public, why allow the Dems to knock a big hole in that strong point when it isn't necessary?

What is stupid is your ignorance. DPWorld bought out P&O in an old fashioned business acquisition and the P&O shareholders approved the sale.

If anything you have animus at the P&O shareholders. But what they hey you don't the facts so you blame Bush.

Oh puleeeeaze. There are billions at stake for cryin out loud. Course, we (avg joe citizen) won't ever get any of it. But what we'll get in the final is a nuke shoved up our collective colons...brought to our ports all safe and secure courtesy of a UAE (boo hoo but I thought they were our friends) cargo vessel.

Based on the empirical evidence before us, some might correctly conclude that money has taken precendent over our national security. What an effin nightmare.

beam me up scotty

This is true, and I bet our arrangements in Dubai are among the best in the entire world for knowing what is being placed in containers and on ships. One of the changes that was made immediately after Homeland Security was set up was a system of scrutinizing shipments before they ever get loaded, much less get offloaded in the US.

And like the NSA surveillance system, the White House, Chertoff, et al, do not want to describe chapter and verse of what we are doing. So folks who want to make cheap political points will weaken our surveillance defences rather than let a system work for the benefit of all of us.
