Tax on stupid?
Nah, but I believe it was P.T. Barnum who had something to say about it.

the cash option worth $177.3 million Minus taxes - $109 million remaining
Take that $9 million for immediate use - $100 million remaining
A very safe 4% return - $4 million a year pre-tax income.
I could live on that.

Here in Illinois the lottery was touted as a cure for public education funding, Guess what? They are still whining for more money and the lottery money is not going where they said it would.
I play but Illinois is not a power ball state. We have "mega Millions".

A big fuss is being made over a sports figure's wife betting on sports. But government has put the stamp of approval on gambling, except government does not like competition.
The real question is whether government should be encouraging gambling? Down through history gambling has not been one of man's highest virtues. Even government calls it "gaming" to avoid the appearance of approving of gambling.
Government is supposed to work for the best interest of the governed. It's not clear that a government monopoly on gambling makes gambling OK.
It's ironic that after the state sets up its gambling numbers game, it then publishes a hot line for people who are addicted to the state-sponsored idea that you can get rich quick.

"The numbers drawn Saturday night were 15 - 17 - 43 - 44 - 48 and the Powerball was 29. The Power Play multiplier was 4. "
Funny, those were the exact numbers I was gonna play, but I was a day late and a dollar short.

These lotteries are nothing more than another way for the government to steal your money. 2/3-3/4 will go to the governments involved for taxes. This is money that is already taxed. America is the most corrupt country on the face of the earth today and it is done in the name of the law.

Hasn't theree been some studies of winners of Jackpots, and that they all die in 5 years, commit suicide, end up unhappy as everyone of their friends thinks they too need to get some piece of the pie? Seems I remember that the vast majority after they were paid and the money spent wished they would have never won.

Give me a break. Corrupt would be if buying lottery tickets was compulsory. Last time I checked, it wasn't.
