WASHINGTON, Feb. 18, 2006 – A Multinational Division Baghdad soldier was killed today when a roadside bomb struck his vehicle in eastern Baghdad, military officials reported. The soldier's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

In other news, Iraqi troops disrupted a roadside bomb attempt and coalition forces uncovered an al Qaeda plot to attack a local tribe.

As local children led 3rd Iraqi Public Order Brigade troops to a bag containing a bomb in eastern Baghdad Feb. 15, three men were seen running from the site. The suspects eluded capture while a second roadside bomb was detonated. There were no injuries, and no equipment was damaged. The troops recovered the first roadside bomb

During an operation in a rural area about 30 miles northeast of Ramadi on Feb. 11, coalition forces uncovered an al Qaeda document that outlined a plot to kill members of the Albu-Nimr tribe. The plan revealed rocket attacks and assassinations against the tribe members in Hit.

A second document detailed how al Qaeda degraded and destroyed phone switches in Haditha, Baghdadi, and Hit and took phone cards away from people so they could not call out. Al Qaeda threatened to follow up with further action if the switches were fixed, officials said.

Coalition forces turned both documents over to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior. In other news from Iraq, about 430 detainees were recently released from the Theater Internment Facilities following a Combined Review and Release Board recommendation to do so.

The Iraqi-led CRRB, which was established in August 2004, consists of members from the Ministries of Human Rights, Justice and Interior, as well as officers from the Multi-National Forces.

To date, the board has reviewed the cases of more than 27,900 detainees, recommending more than 14,600 individuals for release.

Too bad for those kids, the next time the 'suspects' and their buddies come through looking for revenge. Unless the Coalition guys manage to put them down before they can get to the kids.

Soldier rest, Gently pressed,
To the calm, Mother Earth's
Waiting breast;
Duty done, Like the sun:
Going West.

Isn't there a vehicle the DOD wants that is highly IED resistant but was killed because of budget constraints?
