Florida's Nelson & Harris Differ On Iraq
CBS4 ^

(AP) WASHINGTON, DC As Sen. Bill Nelson sat on the Armed Services Committee listening to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld getting grilled about the war in Iraq, his likely opponent, U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, was returning from her second trip to the country.
Both have strong thoughts about the situation in Iraq and agree on some major points, like keeping U.S. troops in the country until Iraqi forces and police can be sufficiently trained to keep the country secure from insurgents and al-Qaida.
But each speaks in a different tone: Nelson is clearly frustrated with "the mess" in Iraq and Harris is optimistic about the country's future.
"What's done is done. We're in this war under incorrect information and also lack of information," said Nelson, who has also traveled to the country. "Part of it was intelligence failure, but part of it was withholding information from the United States Senate with regard to intelligence."
Nelson, a Democrat seeking re-election in November, said he voted for the war because President Bush's administration convinced him that Saddam Hussein was planning attacks on the United States, including using unmanned aircraft launched off the Atlantic Coast to deliver biological and chemical weapons to major cities.
He wouldn't say, though, whether his vote would have been different if he was given better information.

What?
Maybe I missed it but has anyone heard anything about something of this nature being promoted by the Administration.

Would it suprise any Bush adm supporter if you really found out Saddam was completely involved in 911?

I would like to know if Nelson read the complete intelligence report made available to them that only a handful of Sens. and Reps. read. I contacted Sens. Murray and Cantwell and Rep. Baird's offices with that question and never got an answer.

I agree. The choice of pics is shocking bias. But Nelson is so pompous and bogus, even his seg doesn't help him.

Nelson's base is in South Florida. Harris will probably take most of the Northern counties...Simular to Bush. She is from the Keys so Miami-Dade will be in play during this election. Ought to intersting...
