It's always funny how some who have never participated tend to lump all of those variant experiences together.

"Americans DON'T do such things" -- what does that mean? What don't Americans do?
I lumped all of those things together ( and I could have added other things as well. LOL ), because they belong together. Every single one of those things are BAD!
My point in recounting that anecdotal incident, was that my mother said that Americans just don't behave that way and they hadn't, until quite some time later. Oh yes, tiny, disparate groups had ( well, sort of , but not really ), in the past, but it wasn't until the bad old days of the late '60s/early '70s, that they did so.
