I think that lots of the attitude problem comes from Mommy Dearest. Here I thought that only sixteen-year-old female gymnasts and figure skaters had stage moms; however, apparently, this is not the case...
However, it's a pity about Davis though. If it wasn't for the enormous chip on his shoulder, the world would be his oyster. He'd get the sappy fluff with the soundtrack theme instead of the whiny piece he got tonight, and advertisers would be knocking each other down to get him endorsement deals.
As for Chad, he came off a bit petulent as well tonight. His main strengths are the 1500 m, 5,000 m, and the 10,000 m, so it really shouldn't come as a surprise that Shani beat him. Even though he doesn't like the guy, he could at least act fake happy for him.
Frankly, right now, despite the fact that the U.S. is going to probably get the rest of the gold medals, the only person who looks really good from a PR standpoint is Joey Cheek. Giving his winnings to charity and challenging sponsors to do the same is incredibly awesome.
Great post...I agree with all points.
The best part other than Joey Cheek's charitable giving, is his good showing is a surprise...which make a feel good story even better.
Davis has a chip....but, in a sport that is all-white, he must have heard all of his life how he "didn't belong"...which makes for a wall to be built up to keep from getting hurt.
Perhaps this win....will help him let down the barrier a little...once he is accepted as a legit player in ice skating.
