"A lot of older Aussies cannot forgive or forget what the Japs did to our boys...and nurses!"

I worked at Ford with a couple of Marines who had fought at Iwo Jima. When Ford was working on joint projects with Mazda in the '80s these guys were slated to work on those programs. One, who worked for a more enlightened boss, prevailed on him to transfer him to another non-Japanese program. The other chose to retire such was his lingering hatred of the Japanese.

More importantly a lot of us Americans will never forget the truly heroic and compassionate actions of our Australian allies, soldier and civilian, in WWII and down to the present times.

As an anecdote my uncle was held at Santo Thomaso as a POW for 5 years. He was an Augustian Father who was at the school as a missionary. I will spare the details, but it took 50 years for him to sit down with a tape recorder and talk about it while he was still lucid.
The point of this is he at one time said, " I swore I would love the Japanese JUST ENOUGH to get into heaven"
