Here's a rebuttal to that 'concerned muslim' from a not-so-concerned muslim on that formum:

"I disagree strongly with Deus ex machina. Islam has a great future in the West; provided only that we change our tactics. The West is strong materially and militarily, but weak and confused in its spiritual beliefs. Therefore, more can be gained by self-control and sincere da'wah than by violence.

"The book of Mr Rushdie was an impudent insult, but it is the wrong tactic to call for his murder. This film on the internet, "Submission", by Theo van Gogh was pornographic and blasphemous, but his murder was a crime that has only sparked reprisals, and more interest in the film. Unity does not mean we must approve of the killing of civilians: unity should mean we restrain them for the good of the community.

"We are made to feel uncomfortable in the West now, but others have borne this; Japanese in America were put into camps, and even the royals had to de-Germanize their family name (from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor).

"The West rose to power only after they brought back the sciences of the East to their land; let us study and work to return the favour."
