Don't any of you people know how a container port works?
The port operator just manages the throughput of the facility. There is not neccesarrily a connection between the port operator and the ships that service that port.
The only "security" the port operator provides is to protect the freight against criminals . THEY DO NOT provide security for the country from the freight.
That job is done by US Customs.
NO ONE CAN REMOVE A CONTAINER FROM ANY US PORT WITHOUT US CUSTOMS APPROVAL
NO ONE CAN EVEN LOAD A CONTAINER ON A VESSEL IN A FOREIGN PORT IF THAT LOAD IS BOUND FOR THE US, OR WILL BE ON A SHIP THAT TRAVELS THROUGH THE US WITHOUT US CUSTOMS APPROVAL
There is absolutely nothing in addition to waht US Customs does that provides any sort of "security" to the country.
I can assure you, ports are not opening containers to peek inside.
A terrorists can just as easily ship weapons through a port with a US-based port operator as with a foreign one BECAUSE THE PORT OPERATOR DOESN'T CARE ONE BIT WHAT'S IN TEH CONTAINERS. All the port operator cares about is:
- is my yard not completely a mess
- are the truckers coming in authorized
- did US Customs and the Shipping Line that shipped the thing approve the release of the cargo.
That's it!
Oh my God, sanity.... thank you!
Sc**bag Schumer does.
Yet he misrepresents what is going on. Then, the NY Times, Newsday and Reuters run with the disinformation. To complete the cycle you have people like Mike Savage, Peter King and Michelle Milkin who then feed it to the Bubba's.
What you get is people who can accurately answer your above question by saying, "no"....even here at FreeRepublic.
Now, I learned from your post. Thanks.
