Last time I checked, the Spanish have never been too shy about expressing their political beliefs.
What was left out of the article (At least, I think was left out, I couldn't contact the web page), was that if the Belgian-born Charles Martel (grand dad to Charlemagne)had not defeated the Muslims at Tours in 732(or 33), Islam would have spread much deeper into Europe and Western society as we know it would not exist.

Indeed. Consider: the Viking era began when Charlemagne began wars of forced conversion on the Norse peoples. Now, imagine that Martel had lost, and it was the *Muslims* who launched wars of aggression against the Vikings. Only one of two results, really... complete Muslim conquest, or today the head honcho in Damascus would be a fella named Ragnar.
