1) Your post #51 is all about you, you, you. You did this, and you did that, and you did the other thing. Wake up and smell the coffee, bub. People are individuals and react as individuals to the particular circumstances of their lives.

2) Just because you don't know any alcoholics who committed suicide, doesn't mean there are none. You have an exceptional egocentric way of looking at the world. Apparently, if something doesn't exist in your life, it doesn't exist anywhere.

3) Suicide is one of the leading causes of death of people under the age of 30. Here's some facts for you, and a link to where I obtained these facts:

Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death for all U.S. men (Anderson and Smith 2003).

Males are four times more likely to die from suicide than females (CDC 2004).

Suicide rates are highest among Whites and second highest among American Indian and Native Alaskan men (CDC 2004).

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people ages 15 to 24. Of the total number of suicides among ages 15 to 24 in 2001, 86% were male.

Risk Factors -- Research has identified the following risk factors for suicide (DHHS 1999):

Previous suicide attempt(s)
History of mental disorders, particularly depression
History of alcohol and substance abuse
Family history of suicide
Family history of child maltreatment
Feelings of hopelessness
Impulsive or aggressive tendencies
Barriers to accessing mental health treatment
Loss (relational, social, work, or financial) Physical illness
Easy access to lethal methods
Unwillingness to seek help because of the stigma attached to mental health and substance abuse disorders or suicidal thoughts
Cultural and religious beliefs—for instance, the belief that suicide is a noble resolution of a personal dilemma Local epidemics of suicide
Isolation, a feeling of being cut off from other people

Like the Great One Jackie Gleason once said: "I am not an alcoholic, I am a drunkard. There is a difference." If an alcoholic kills himself, it is not because he is an alcoholic but because of other reasons. When someone is a drunk, there is no pain. There is no depression. There is only glee. Yes, alcohol is a depressant, but it lasts only for a few hours in the form of a hangover, and usually the victims will is too shot to do anything else but sleep. Saying someone kills themselves because of alcohol is like saying someone kills themselves because they feel too good. It just does not exist. Drugs on the other hand is a different matter. I don`t care what anyone says, but I truly believe Sandy Hume was murdered, most likely by cocaine being put into his drink. A cocaine down will put anyone into a suicidal state if enough is given.
