To be serious, I kinda expect him to say it was his fault for walking into the field of fire without properly announcing himself, or some such thing.
If he and Cheney each declare the other was not to blame, David Gregory will have nothing to do but go pound sand.
That's what I think too - the first reports were that he was more concerned about how this would impact Cheney than his own well-being. Sounds like a good Southern gentleman to me.
