Man Shot In Accident After Laughing At Cheney
(AP) LAFAYETTE, Colo. Hours after laughing about Vice President Dick Cheney's hunting mishap, Josh Kayser was himself shot by a friend during a hunting expedition.
The 21-year-old Lafayette man was taken to the hospital Monday night after his girlfriend accidentally shot him while they were trailing a raccoon that had been preying on chickens on his family's property.
"I read that thing about the vice president and said to myself 'how can you shoot your friend with your gun?' And look what happened," he said Tuesday.
Kayser was crouched down to look under a shed where he thought a wounded raccoon was hiding, and his 17-year-old girlfriend accidentally shot him with a .22-caliber rifle. Police have not identified the girlfriend.

I know that 12 ga. is .71 caliber and that .410 is .410. How 'big' is 28 gauge? Bigger'n .17 caliber but smaller than .56?

Vanity:
I have a shooting to report! Last summer, my daughter was one of two female victims of a BB gun rampage perpetrated by a little neighborhood boy.
There were no injuries except to the little boy's pride when his father marched him to our house and made him apologize to her and promised us that it would never happen again.
I'm not sure if the girls have exacted any type of revenge, but if I were him, I'd watch his back!
I'm sorry it took me this long to report it. I didn't know it would be newsworthy.

Does it bother anyone that the girl was 17 and the boy 21? And SHE was the one with the gun? I mean... I miss back home and all, but I know *I* would have been the one shot for bring home a 21 year old boy at 17!

I've missed plenty. I was merely pointing out that a .22 LR is sufficient for that hunt.
I didn't own a shotgun until I was 16, so prior to that it was all .22 bolt action. You better be a good shot with that!

Police have not identified the girlfriend.
But DU has learned from a secret White House source that she is the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland.

Gauge and caliber are not interchangeable terms.
Gauge is determined by the number of round lead balls that would fit down the bore of any shotgun, that would equal one pound.
Caliber is more measured in bore diameter, stated in inches, or MM.
A 410 shotgun is measured in bore, and doesn't fit the rule for all others, hence it is a .410 bore, not a 410 gauge.
In judging the size of a shotgun....The smaller the number, the larger it is, as far as the projectiles it fires goes.

"At least it was only a .22 and not a 28-guage." Not many people understand the "gauge" thing. Allow me to bore (pun intended) you with this.
The Gauge of a shotgun is determined in this fashion; a 28 gauge shotgun for example. Take a number of lead balls that will fit into the bore of the gun and will weigh one pound; in this case 28. In the case of a 12 gauge, 12 lead balls that will fit into the bore of the gun weigh one pound. Irrespective of choke (full, modified, etc.), of course. The only exception (that I'm aware of) is the 410. The bore of a 410 is 0.410 inches.
You probably already knew that and, in that case, this falls into the "for what it's worth" category.
