You mean they can just rename some food they're not supposed to eat and then it becomes OK? So do they call sausages "Consorts of the Prophet Muhammad" and it's all good suddenly? Hmmm. Practical religion this.

Kennedy's error was not in pronunciation, but in grammar. Actually a Berliner can be either a jelly donut or a resident of Berlin, depending on the gender of the noun. The confection is neutral so "ein Berliner" describes the donut. The inhabitants of the city, regardless of sex are referred to in the masculine so "einer Berliner" applies. He should have proclaimed "Ich bin einer Berliner".

BTW, doesn't "Ich bin ein Berliner" actually translate as "I am a Danish?"
