Such morbid speculation has crept into the mainstream media as well. A writer for Time magazine offered this last night:
He's 78. He got hit in the face and body by a spray of tiny pellets. He's back in intensive care. It's not inconceivable that the vice-president may have accidentally killed someone. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. I don't know Texas law; and I'm not a lawyer. But wouldn't this be a case of something like negligent homicide?
This morning's New York Times picks up the theme:
In Texas, Carlos Valdez, the district attorney in Kleberg County, said a fatality would immediately spur a new report from the local sheriff and, most likely, a grand jury investigation.
Reports of Whittington's death are greatly exaggerated. A physician who reads this column writes:
Calling the pellet-induced arrhythmia a "heart attack" is a little sensationalist. A "heart attack" is not an official medical term, and is generally taken as meaning a blockage of a significant cardiac artery and resultant damage to the heart. Calling the pellet-induced heart damage a "heart attack" is like calling a bruise a "tissue infarction." The pellet presumably irritated a small area of heart tissue or obstructed a tiny blood vessel.
It sounds, then, as though Whittington has a good heart--which is more than one can say for many in the press and the Angry Left.

Are you stating that a President is limited in his pardons to convicts of federal infractions, and not normal murderers, rapists, or any other state law offenders?
You're absolutely right! These are the same traitors that hope for our loss in the War on Terror, so that thay can say Bush was wrong. They are also the vast MAJORITY of the teachers and professors that are in charge of your children all day for 9/10 months of the year!
I meant the kids that are in public school or college, please forgive me all home-schoolers.
And the talkshow hosts are just as sick as the pundits.

On David Letterman:
I used to have a decent amount of respect for him and considered him a rather pleasant guy. But ........ the last two nights he has boisterously told his audience and the viewing public that Dick Cheney shot Mr. Whittington in the face because he was tired of Mr. Whittington making jokes about his lesbian daughter.
I had never heard anything so vile as that, and it was from a guy who I had thought was somewhat of a gentleman! This was much worse than Kerry slipping the "lesbian daughter" thing in at the Presidential debate.

Disgusting....
true..........stranger things have happened
Well, prolly Whittington will go on Fox in a few weeks and say that he's really sorry to disappoint all the people who hoped he would die.
"Newsflash. Journalists are not elected, I as a taxpayer do not pay their salaries (fortunate for them!)."
If I did pay their salaries, every dime of MY tax dollars would be earmarked to go to Brit Hume !
Yes. The President has no jurisdiction in those cases.
