Second Republican joins race against Stetler City woman cites property taxes as her top concern HEIDI BERNHARD-BUBB The York Dispatch

Another challenger has entered the race for the 95th District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. York City resident Karen Emenheiser, a Republican, announced her candidacy Tuesday. Emenheiser will challenge York City businessman Larry Homsher in the May primary. Homsher, 58, is vice-president of Vidmar Distributors and announced his candidacy last week. The winner of the primary will face state Rep. Steve Stetler, D-York, who has held the seat since 1991. Stetler hasn't faced an opponent in the November general election in his last two bids for re-election. Emenheiser said she decided to run for public office "after I saw my taxes go up and everyone else's go up every year" and said she "wants to be the kind of representative (she) would want as a taxpayer. " A North Carolina native, the 32-year-old Emenheiser moved to York four years ago. Emenheiser, who is currently unemployed, said she will devote herself full time to her candidacy. "Right now, I am doing this for a living, I didn't feel it was feasible to run without giving this my full effort," she said. Emenheiser cites property tax reform as her top concern. "I, actually, would like to see the abolishment of property taxes," she said. However, Emenheiser said that "in the real world with real world economic problems," that might not be possible. However, she said, "I agree with Lynn Swann; I think the whole system needs an overhaul. It's not fair and it's not equal." Emenheiser said she would also like to see reform in the school districts, which she said could reduce costs. If elected, Emenheiser said she would introduce legislation to consolidate the 16 school districts into one countywide school district under one superintendent. Emenheiser said the school districts are "top-heavy organizations" with each of the superintendents making six figures. "It represents a large amount of revenue that could go back to the schools," she said. "The answer is not in laying off the front-line people, laying off a teacher's aide, or a tutor, or a hall monitor will not solve the problem." Emenheiser said other issues she would address in her campaign would be protecting landowners from abuse of eminent domain and frivolous legislative spending. Ultimately, Emenheiser said, "I think that the people would let me know what their wishes are. That is what a representative is; they are not a boss, they are an extension of the people and their job is to be the voice of their district." I am most certainly NOT unemployed. I have served as the copyist consultant referral for two colleges for a few years. Just like all other freelance businessmen & women, I do research between projects because it is the only time I have to do it. My last project/collaboration with Dr. Milton Laufer of Peace College is being published in 6 countries. I was inaccurately quoted in the article you copied. I said I would devote 100% of my time towards my campaign and if elected 100% of my time to the people of the 95th district. I can't explain it, but encourage you to visit my site. Oh, and by the way, I have never received Welfare and you probably should not judge those who do. www.emenheiser95.com

I was just making fun of the wording of the news story. Kudos to you for your hard work! I will check out your site sooner rather than later.

P.S. I will be the judge of who I can judge.
