OK, I've looked at all the photos now, and I'm not shocked like they want me to be. Honestly, if I saw things that were unreasonable, I would tell the truth and say that it upset me. I'm not going to defend practices that are abhorrent. Luckily, I don't have to. These are not shocking or abhorrent at all.
I see people being humiliated, maybe beaten up. Ok. Considering that this is an interrogation of people who are willing to behead innocent civilians, blow up children, kill themselves in the name of, well, whatever it is today, I don't think it's out of line at all.
Wake me when there's something worth all the sound and fury.
I don't think they're abhorrent, but they are unreasonable. We should not be treating prisoners this way. However, I think the best way to handle this is internally. It's not necessary for the public to see the pictures, just as many pictures are kept from the public in the case of abuse or violent crimes. Deal appropriately with the guilty parties and that's the end of it.
The only reason to publish those photos is to imflame the passions of the already crazed terrorists.
