1969 Jul 18, A car driven by Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., plunged off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island near Martha's Vineyard. His passenger, 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, died. (TMC, 1994, p.1969)(AP, 7/18/97)

If I recall correctly, Fat Teddy and his posse waited 12 hours to even notify police or emergency services that a person was trapped under water in the back seat of his car.
