The un-American activity hearings on national TV turned the public against "McCarthyism".Which is a shame, because Joseph Mc Carthy wasn't a member of that committee; he was a senator not a congressman. His and JFK's committee was concerned with communists in the government.

Nit-picking but I think you meant that he was not a Representative. Senators and Representatives are both Congressmen.

That's true, but the press turned him into the high priest of witch hunters. The same would happen today. Any Conservative politician going down that road is committing political suicide. The Liberals could pull it off because they have the MSM on their side.
