I don't mean to p--- anyone off needlessly, but isn't this fairly typical of the Northwest, or at least the coastal Northwest? Unfortunately...it's typical of many state supported universities.
Not just the NW....

Jill Edwards is not at fault here, she is merely the product of an education system that is destroying America.I suppose I see your point.....
Although if she IS a student of math...Surely she can see that MILLIONS of people have bravely DIED...so she could act like a donkey.

You were wearing a Marine Corps Cover, does that make you a soldier? A Marine? A Corpsman? A SeaBee?
Are Airmen, Soldiers as well?
We may be on the same side but there are marked differences in the ways in which we were trained, served, and the names by which we prefer to be called.
All Marines earn the right NOT to be called soldiers, because there are fundimental differences between them and the Army, That you a USAF vet did not learn that during the time you served is mindboggling.

My dad was a SeaBee. He was on his way to Japan for the big invasion. One of his duties was to drive a Higgins boat during the invasion...a boatload of Marines.
I served my country honorably in the U.S.A.F. on a nuclear missle base in Cheyenne, WY.
Its a free country.
I have been chastised by about five Marines on this thread. I have gone out of my way to make amends with them. Have you read this whole thread?
I am getting tired of Marines. They used to have my respect, but I am rapidly losing it for them. That is my right. Because of you and guys like you.
Shove off, mate.

If the University of Washington doesn't see fit to honor one of its alumni, a Medal of Honor winner and National Hero, then they should not receive any Federal Funding Whatsoever, even if it means losing the ROTC units there. Not one dime of my federal tax dollars show go to this institution of lower living.
But alas, the White House and Congress are too Cowardly and/or Lazy to ever give the thought of withholding Federal Funds to any anti-american institutions much thought.
Just the thought of watching at least half of these tenured, commie, half wit professors laid off and forced to find a real job would make all the handwringing worth it.
I would laugh my head off if the President and Congress ever found the Courage to actually just propose that Federal Funds be withheld from these types of "Educational Institutions". The Commies would be seen jumping off their Dorm Roofs.

Because we Marines don't like to be called soldiers by you.
You should know better, maybe you do and are being confrontational for your own jollies.
I'll take your "Shove off Mate!" as sincere an apology as you can give.

You are the one being confrontational.
I'll be waiting for your apology. When I get one from you, I'll give you one back. You started this whole thing.

I don't mean to p--- anyone off needlessly, but isn't this fairly typical of the Northwest, or at least the coastal Northwest? Here in Ashland, OR, several yrs back, well, maybe a yr back, some vandals removed the head from an Abe Lincoln statue in our park.
Abe continues to stand headless. As far as I can tell no one cares.

"He(Pappy Boyington) might have been a poor soldier...."
His record speaks for itself,
a Superb Commander,
An Ace many times over,
Awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor,
A legend amoung Aviators
and a credit to The Marine Corps and it's esprit de corps,
But to you he might have been a "poor soldier".
Don't hold your breath waiting for my apology.
Just whimper some more about your wounded ego.

When I call someone a soldier, I mean to give them a very high compliment. Soldiers sleep in foxholes, in the mud, in the rain, in the snow. Soldiers get frostbitten and lose fingers and toes and sometimes arms and legs. Soldiers walk for miles with heavy packs on their backs in freezing cold and hot humid jungles. Soldiers get blown up with land mines and artillery and mortars. Soldiers get machnegunned and bombed by enemy aircraft. Soldiers lose arms and legs and eyes in battle. Soldiers eat crummy food for days on end. Soldiers jump out of airplanes to get at the enemy. Soldiers protect our country.
You are right, Marines are not soldiers. Please accept my sincere apology for ever confusing a Marine with a soldier.

Boyington was a drunk and had many fights with his superior officers. Nobody questions that. What happened to him when he was in the Flying Tigers?
That he was a brave man I never questioned. I did call him a good fighter. I even posted the reasons he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
You never did read this whole thread, did you?
Quite frankly, I am very proud of the man.
You really are a big jerk, aren't you?

If you are so proud of him why do you go out of your way to highlight his faults as you see them first?
"Boyington was a drunk"
Boyington was a man that found solice in a bottle to deal with the horrors of captivity at the hands of the Japanese.
"Boyington had many fights with his superior officers"
Boyington was a strong willed commander idolized by his men and envied by his superiors.
"What happened to Boyington in the Flying Tigers and why was he hated by them?"
You mention how Marines rub you the wrong way, how thick headed they appear to you when they tell you how they like to be addressed, Boyington in the Flying Tigers would have been exactly the same. He would have tried to bend them to the mold he saw as the best IE: the way a Marine would do things, that's why he was generally hated by those he served with in the Flying Tigers.
You really are a big jerk, aren't you?
I at least read this thread and my own words enough times to know what I was trying to say to you. I've been called worse by better.

Once again let me apologize for mistaking a Marine for a soldier.
Soldiers eat crummy food for days on end. Soldiers jump out of airplanes to get at the enemy. Soldiers protect our country.
Soldiers are brave and wonderful people who willingly sacrifice their lives for their country. I have nothing but complete and total respect for a soldier.
You are right, Marines are not soldiers. Please accept my sincere apology for ever confusing a Marine with a soldier.

While I do not like what they did, I think that they unknowingly did him a favor.
Gregory Boyington was and still is to have his statue placed among the degenerates and perverts at the U. of W.

I think the HOW is that it was Soviet surplus aftet the collapse.
The WHY is because of revisionist history which insists that there is nothing bad about Communism or the USSR.
