We are now officially embarrassed about Texas history, and to avoid offending Mexicans, we should also bulldoze the Alamo.

Let's see how long it is until Alamo Day gets turned into what Columbus Day has become in many cities, PC Self Flagellation Day.

One of my boy's favorite movies is The Alamo. They run around fighting off Santa Ana's Mexican army. Does that make me a bad dad?

The '49ers should change their name to not offend them too........

I bet most Mexican Americans in Houston couldn't care less about the name. Its always the few that cause the problems!

I am one of those people that apparently should have been angry with the name. I absolutely pisses me off that these so-called hispanic leaders think they speak for me and other TEXANS that happen to be of hispanic descent. Thing is that in this town when the U.S. national team plays Mexico in a match at Reliant Stadium, it is an away game for the U.S. Are we to believe that all of these fans who follow Mexico and their Mexican league teams are all of the sudden going to follow an MLS franchise now that the name will be changed to something less offensive. Heck, how did the Houston Texans manage to keep their name? Without the events of 1836, there would be no Texans, therefore the name must be offensive. Complete and total nonsense.
To: weegee
What next? The 76ers going to change their name? It's only logical. There may be some Brits who are offended by the name.

This is just absolutely outrageous. What about the fact that I am now offended by the name change? Oh wait, I am just a 'gringo' girl. The fact that the article said "Mexican-AMERICANS" are offended is a joke. They are NOT Americans. They are trying to take over Texas and turn it back into Tejas. My son is in 7th grade Texas History and we are constantly having to tell him the truth. The book is so anti-Texas it is unbelievable. Always talking about the anti-Mexican sentiments, racism, etc.

You beat me to it. Is Tony Blair going to file a complaint on behalf of England, or would it need to be Queen Elizabeth, so the '76ers can stop offending the British?
Gadzooks, will we have to pay them reparations?

I don't care for international soccer matches. They are nationalist rallies. The fans take their loyalties out into the streets. The rest of the world looks down on us because we won't play their game and join in.
I think that Houston's expansion into Major League Soccer has more to do with the Houston Sports Authority trying to find more excuses to remain empowered by the city taxpayers.

Who else would go to soccer games but the Mexicans?
To: Dog Gone
"The bottom line is that at no time did the team or Major League Soccer ever want to offend any members of the Houston community," said league spokesman Dan Courtemanche.Sounds French to me.

What's doubly infuriating is that it assumes all hispanics owe their primary allegiance to Mexico, and that Texas independence (from a country which controlled the territory for a relatively short time) is offensive to all hispanics.
In reality, the vast majority of hispanics in Texas were not born in Mexico, and many of them are from families that were here in 1836 and fought against Mexico in that war.
This fake sense of being offended and the capitulation to it is pathetic.
