To be put in ICU in the first place indicates that the wounds were somewhat more serious than being peppered.

 Not necessarily - as someone who has been in small, rural hospitals - the hospital floor is often something akin to the level of care of a nursing home or rehab facility while the “ICU”, has a level of care roughly equivalent to a modern, up-to-date hospital floor.

 Put another way, the only way to get any sort of real care is to be in the “ICU”. Not to mention if you put someone in ICU you have more control of visitors which could be a key consideration in this case.

This hospital has a thousand doctors....per press report. It is not a small rural hospital.
