I wondered about that yesterday. If these were just pellets imbedded in skin or muscle, there would be no reason for the ICU. Apparently X-rays showed the pellet in the heart muscle. That can cause problems in the first few days, so they were being conservative and popped him into the ICU.
Putting him in ICU could have been precautionary, due to his age, the possibility of infection, and also to keep busybodies away. If he's in ICU, only family members are allowed in. It may be that ICU was requested so that the press wouldn't have access to the area or the people who work there. There could be a number of reasons.
