The US committed "terrible atrocities" against Arabs after the September 11 attacks, according to Al Gore, President George W Bush's defeated rival for the White House in 2000.
Arabs had been "indiscriminately rounded up", often on minor charges, and held in "unforgiveable conditions", the former vice-president told a mainly Saudi audience at the Jeddah Economic Forum.
"Unfortunately there have been terrible abuses and it's wrong," he said. "I want you to know that it does not represent the desires or wishes or feelings of the majority of the citizens of my country."
Mr Gore said the Bush administration was playing into al-Qa'eda's hands by routinely blocking visas for Saudis but he also challenged Arabs to take a stronger stand against Iran's nuclear plans.
More than 1,000 non-Americans were detained on immigration charges and thousands more interviewed after 9/11. Officials deny they were held in poor conditions.
Six months after the attacks, the FBI was conducting about 325 investigations into suspected "hate crimes" against Arab or Muslim people.
He proved that long ago.
This is treason! There is nothing in this speech, by this arrogant has been from the Clinton administration that is true. Alore goes on foreign soil and trashes our country, our people and the current administration...what say all of us??
A good editorial. :)
The same thing we said to Cindy Sheehan:
You don't speak for me, Al Gore!
You may think Sheehan is important, but I don't. She is a booknote if you compare her with Algore. This was an ex Vice President of the United States...stabbing his and our country in the back with false statements which can and probably will put our brave men and women in Iraq in danger or death. Algore words are not a passing intent...he is dangerous and his words give comfort and aid to the enemy. I don't consider his statements anything but treasonous.
The democratic party's spokesman has no comment on the "terrible atrocities" committed against women in Saudi Arabia? The party that says the republicans will overturn a woman's right to an abortion will kiss up to a Muslim state that will deny a women's right to even drive?

Do tell, what are the "unforgivable conditions"?

I want SA and the Muslim world to know that Gore does not speak for me. He (and Kennedy) can spout off all they want about how they speak for the "mainstream", but look for the election results to show the true feeling of the US.
I don't think Sheehan is important but, obviously, the media does. Of course the liberal media thinks anything anti-American is important enough to spread around the world
There needs to be a way we can tell the media to put a sock in it, we've had enough of their "free speech".
