British Make Arrest in Iraq Video Case

LONDON (AP) -- British military police said Monday they have arrested a man in their investigation of a video that allegedly showed British soldiers beating prisoners in Iraq.

The Ministry of Defense declined to identify the man, who was arrested Sunday night.

The governor of the province where the incident allegedly took place said he planned to meet with the Iraqi youths to determine whether they wished to pursue charges against British soldiers. Iraqi President Jalal Talabani condemned the apparent abuse, but said he was pleased that British authorities moved quickly to investigate.

Video images first reported by the News of the World, a Sunday newspaper, appeared to show soldiers dragging several Iraqis into a compound and beating them with fists and batons after a street demonstration.

The cameraman is heard laughing and saying: "Oh yes! Oh Yes! You're gonna get it. Yes, naughty little boys."

The newspaper said the video was made in southern Iraq by a corporal two years ago. It did not name the soldier or the unit involved.

Photos of U.S. troops tormenting and humiliating prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad in 2003 caused worldwide revulsion, and there have also been allegations of abuse by British troops.

"Oh yes! Oh Yes! You're gonna get it. Yes, naughty little boys."

Not to tell stories out of school, but I've read enough porn on the internet to know that at least the camera man was living out a psycho-sexual fantasy, vicarious thought it may have been.

Oooooo-kay!

From the vid I saw, it looked like rock-throwing rioters getting the butts kicked.

Is this current news or the revealing of acts that happened a while back? I suspect it's old news that's been strategically released to ratchet up hate in the immediate region just like the cartoons were recycled.

Calculated political acts by the Iranians to deflect attention to their pressing agenda.

Ok, They may have even been "rock throwing, rioters" or they may just have been part of the protest ...

Either way these were kids, most likely no older than 14 (as far as i can tell from the audio) and had no weapons, were not resisting and were getting clubbed and kicked by armed "professional" soldiers who had dragged them into an area where they thought they would not be seen. This is nothing but abuse of power.

and folks wonder why the coalition is having trouble winning the hearts and minds ...

doesn't really matter ... yes it occurred a few years ago but the tape just surfaced ...

The undeniable fact is if in this situation and others such as Abu Gahrib, the soldiers had acted in a professional manner we would not have to worry about the impact of the press reporting these stories.

Because there would be no stories.

The ACLU is trying to get more videos and photos from Abu Ghrabib released, because, I guess you can never have enough pics from Abu Ghrabib.

Watch the media release these 2.5 year pictures from an incident already prosecuted. The same media that wouldn't show cartoons of the glorious Prophet Mohammad and misreported the holy, holy, holy Koran, oops, Quran in the toilet.

Well THOSE riots and murder rampages are "justified" because the allies are bad bad men.

you could also say that if these so called children had been acting in a childish manner ( like watching cartoons,or playing with their friends or playing sports ) instead of spewing their hatred and bad behavior towards professional military men in a compund they may not have had the problems they experienced.

I say they brought it on themselves.

The sooner we stop making excuses for bad behavior and troublemakers the better off everyone will be. They got what they deserved.

Dont think for one minute that had it been reversed and a few soldiers were caught in a crowd of these so called children outside of their compound these little savages would have torn them apart and possibly killed them.

I'm sorry but children raised in the land of hatred do not think or act like children here in the USA and should not be compared to our little angels.

The prisoners are identified as "youths" but there are plenty of youths who wear lethal suicide bomber vests.

Rocks are weapons. If you are a Bible guy then you would know the story of David vs Goliath. If not, then let me tell you. These guys do more $$$ damage to tanker trucks and supply trucks, than anything else. Literally every day driving thru a hail of rocks and the gunners not able to do anything about it, even though drivers have died from their acts.

I have seen what rocks can do after going through windshields and stopping inside the face of a couple civilian truck drivers.

Didn't the left hiss because the Pope was in a Nazi youth group? How many stones did he actually throw?

These "young men" are more pro-active in their fanatical politics.

What does your link have to do with video footage of armed soldiers beating defenseless men? Nothing.

Nice of the soldiers to bring the boys back into camera range before the punishment began.

On another thread, someone commented that one of the soldiers looks up at the camera. I tried watching it from one link and playback was jumpy. I later saw another version of the video (without journalist voiceover) that ran smoother but was also longer (more stone throwing footage at the beginning). I didn't bother to watch the whole thing.

BTW, has the Western press aired the KEY shot from any of the beheading videos? Why is it sufficient to talk about those incidents without showing what happened?

Fake prison abuse photos (posed) were among the other "alleged abuses by british troops".

Just giving the "rest of the story".

If the armed men (who did not shoot the "youths") had fired on them, would you still be complaining that they were defenseless?

Were the insurgents justified in their actions?

This is a war.

I have seen the beheading videos,

they are quite monstrous

still if the soldiers acted in a professional matter from the start ... we would not have to worry about unflattering media

war does not justify the beating of children ...

it can be seen that the crowed is visibly dispersing ... the soldiers chase after them and catch some kids who they proceed to take their aggression out on ...

very unprofessional ....
