WASHINGTON - President Bush knew Saturday evening that Vice President Dick Cheney had accidentally shot a hunting companion, but the information wasn’t made public until the next day by a private citizen, the White House acknowledged Monday.

In a contentious media briefing, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Cheney’s staff was focused on making sure that the shooting victim, Texas attorney Harry Whittington, was receiving adequate medical care after the shooting on the private Armstrong Ranch in south Texas. Whittington and Cheney were hunting quail together.

My pleasure.

The hypocrisy of the press has been making me laugh all day.

That being said, I'm sure Cheney feels terrible and will never forgive himself. Just glad it wasn't worse.

OH!

I've never been on Armstrongs but I have hunted white wings in McAllen on the Circle 5.

Didn't have to fling nary a haybale either.

They are pissed Cheney bypassed the "gatekeepers" of information.

Cheney can make it all right with the press. Just invite them to go shooting with him.

I agree. Lug probably lives in Teaneck, NJ and has no clue in the difference between the breech and the muzzle.

I don't think (S)lugsoul has ever smelled gunpowder or Hoppe's #9.

My first Valentine gift to my wife was a 6oz. bottle of Hoppe's. Needless to say, we were a very happy couple at the end of the evening. (wink)

This is getting so ridiculous. brian williams was drooling over this "scandal" and it will be the lead story for the NBC news.

I'll bet brian willams has been crapping his pants all day in anticipation of leading off with this story. LOL! His dramatic, nasal delivery will go up about three octaves.

I actually saw a post on DU that said "And they still get on Kennedy's case for not reporting his accident for 8 hours... they waited nearly 24 hours!"

Gak. I really wished I could log in and say "Look, moron... There's a difference between a failure to call for emergency response and a failure to call the ever-lovin' press."

Good grief. It's the press's job to find out and report stuff. It's not the Vice President's job to keep them posted immediately on any incident that happens to him. They'll find out soon enough.

I was waiting for the Lame Stream Media to announce that this time the "quail hunting" was for small feathered birds, not helpless females, ala the antics of the Commander-In-Heat.

Perhaps I should have brought lunch.

And guess who Chrissy Matthews has as his experts discussing this, tweedledum and tweedledee(Pat Buchanan and Ron Reagan Jr.)

Turn on the TV these days and you go through the looking glass.

The liberal MSM is going moonbatty.

I figure by tomorrow they'll probably be demanding that criminal charges be filed against Cheney, which would force him from office. I'll bet they're already feverishly ripping through every detail of the local sheriff's life, looking to see if he ever voted for a Republican in his life so they can scream "He's in on the cover up!" and try to force him to file charges.

The Dan Rather "Memogate" scandal was a clear indication the Liberal elite press cannot be trusted to sort out fact from fiction, or to report the facts as opposed to what they believe we should know based on their political leanings.

They have become irrelevant, biased, and antagonists against no only Republicans but also Americans who believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

These days, there isn't much difference from ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, The NY Times, etc. and Al Jazeera.

Do you think that the MSM, and in particular the idiots on MSNBC have ANY idea how totally ridiculous they look??? Like, uhhh, the american people really care that the whiny babies in the press were treated like the unimportant afterthoughts that they are? I am ROTFLMAO at the tantrum they are throwing. The Chrissy and Prissy (Ron Reagan) pair were particularly hilarious. And the self-important spouse of the Greenspan just added flavor to the mix. If ever there were a description of "high dundgeon" we are now seeing it. What a day!

Need a new Press Secretary.

One who knows how to say, "Yeah...so? Since you don't have a point...other than the one on top of your head...let's move on to important matters. Next?"

It was an accident. Cheney saw to the victim first unlike Ted Kennedy who ran away and worried about himself.

This whole thing raises more questions than answers.

Why did Cheney shoot an unarmed, elderly man and why didn't he immediately call David Gregory???

Well, that's it. We must demand Cheney's resignation. Do you know John Conyer's phone number? Maybe he could draft a letter.

McClellan needs to grow a pair. If I was him I would have basically told the media to crawl back under their rocks.

You watch Matthews? That explains your hysteria and lack of any factual basis for your comments.

Why should the VP get arrested "for [my] sake?" Are you projecting again?

Maybe he'll have Ms. Matalin on so she can explain how shooting someone isn't "anything he wasn't supposed to do."

No, they have no idea because they don't believe they are ridiculous, that's what makes it so hilarious. My husband and I were laughing our heads off at them today. Today was classic.
