I remember when the athletes weren't even known before the olympics....and it was a team thing. Where winning the gold was the gateway to greater things. Oh well....they're still the cream of the crop even if sometimes they're total egomaniacs.

I wish I understood this snowboard thing.....they all look good unless they crash!

I remember when the athletes weren't even known before the olympics....and it was a team thing.

Earlier today I heard about the figure skaters competing in "The Worlds". I hadn't thought about all these skaters having so much contact with each other and being so familiar with the others' abilities and routines.

It made me wonder when these world competitions came about. How much harder it must have been in the old, old days when (I imagine) competitors were going into the competition with little idea of who the Russian skaters would be or what their skills were.
