There is only so much you can see with a gun up to your shoulder and your eyes on the sight and the target. That is why they are supposed to signal when they are near, especially if they were not there when the flushing began. He may be the VP but does not have eyes in the back of his head or a periscope that spins around looking for idiots that step in the line of fire.

He made a mistake - it doesn't take eyes in the back of one's head to have situational awareness, especially when firearms are involved.

I've been hunting for probably longer than you've been alive, and I know for a fact that it only takes a brief moment of time to check again - I highly doubt the 70-something ran up to him - he would have heard it, therefore, the 70-something year old man walked up to him - which gave him more than enough time to take a brief look.

This is the equivalent of somebody backing out of a parking spot or their garage and only taking one look before throwing it into reverse and not looking again.

The fact that he is VP gives those of us who hunt a very bad name - it's embarassing as hell, because the anti-gun crowd will be trumpeting this for the next few years.

The man is very lucky he is not dead. Very lucky.

Let 'em trumpet. They're the ones who've been saying they support guns *only* when used for sport (hunting). What, are they going to back off that now?
