Read the report again. The Geezer shot a bird and went off away from the rest of the group looking for it. He never signaled that he was near the VP, or in the immediate area. Shame on him for getting the VP involved in his brain fart.

They both had a brain fart, although the older gentleman is more to blame - as you said he should have signaled, but I would say the VP should be careful as well - I've seen a hunting dog killed in the same way the older gentleman was shot - by somebody not making sure the immediate area was clear and swinging around.
As far as calling him a "Geezer" - you should be so lucky to be hunting at his age (and to still be quiet enough to walk up near somebody without being heard).

Read the report again. But it is always so much funner to not read the whole story before you comment on it.;)

The report I read (initial to be sure) did not address the matter of the other gentleman leaving the group. From what I read it appeared that Cheney turned his shotgun and fired. It did not seem to be something that the VP, an experienced hunter, would do.
I'll concede this. I should have waited for additional reports. OK?
