That may be so in a one-to-one situation, and if so, great. But it does not come across in TV interviews or in speeches.
If he and his supporters are serious about a run, their first order of business is to get him some intense media training...and not just a couple of sessions. If he is, as you say, warm and likeable in person, then he can be coached.
