I just heard from the marvelous Stacie Rumenap (who makes CPAC run) that Sen. George Allen (R.-Va.) won this year’s CPAC straw poll. I don’t have the complete results at this point, but as soon as I get them, I will post. Here are some details:

Firstly, congrats to the Allen people. They showed up at CPAC with his entire Senate campaign apparatus plus a ton of VA college students. Americans For Dr. Rice showed up with our merchandise, eight people, a couple of hotel rooms, and a song and a dance. We ended up about where we are nationally if you remove Allen.

All in all, we had a very good outing.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Actually I was teasing Diddle E Squat who BRIEFLY spent some time in Newark during the Giuliani years.

Tell us more about what happened. The percentages are quite interesting, and surprising, for a right wing GOP group. Why didn't Allen take the place by storm?

Well you included me in the ping. Frankly, I will opine about politics, anywhere, anytime. I have certain pandemic tendencies. Is there anything you want to know about Kentucky or Minnesota?

Keep repeating this phrase.

Bernie Kerik. Attorney General.

Bernie Kerik. Attorney General.

How safe does that make you feel ?

Ain't gonna happen. LOL. It must be wonderful to pick perfect people to perform, and live, perfectly, 24/7. Sad, but Lincoln is dead. He came the closest.

To say the Kerik was "imperfect" is like saying that Pol Pot "made mistakes".

Allen has good charisma. Have you spoken to him?

If he and his supporters are serious about a run, their first order of business is to get him some intense media training...and not just a couple of sessions. If he is, as you say, warm and likeable in person, then he can be coached.

Like it or not, fair or not, it's a fact of life that personality weighs heavily in an election. It doesn't matter how good your ideas are--you've got to get people listening first. It's an inherent part of leadership, and why Reagan was so successful.

Are you saying that President Bush has charisma? Speaks well? Comes across as warm and likeable? Never stutters? Never falters?

The Clinton-like charm that you are looking for in a Republican candidate may be a turn off to Americans who desire a good manager. The anti-politician has more grass roots appeal. Allen's transparency and honesty will serve him well.

Just for the record, I voted for Perot. Big mistake.

I think right now is a great time for you guys to reevaluate whether or not Pence is running. He has said and done some things the last two weeks that I did not expect him to do for at least a year. The things he did at CPAC really hurt him inside the beltway(but not for an 08 run).Pence is not eager to do it,but in his opinion there is no one else.If Pence is called HE WILL RUN.Personal ambition is one thing, but if Pence feels he is called by the people or the Lord,he will run.

Woohooooo! ...

Do you mean "Woohooooo", big victory, two whole points, or, do you mean "Woohooooo" that McCain got so much? Btw, my straw vote would have been for Allen.

McCain? We've already had a traitor in the Whitehouse, how bad can a PTSD induced maniac be? Actually, the traitor did a better job than the peanut farmer, so who knows what we would have with mania involved ...

Allen...needs to get a good speech writer.

Have to agree with you there. His speech at CPAC was a long run of cliches and canned pablum. Not impressed to date. I'm not one of the zillion younguns who were dazzled by his presence at CPAC.

Can you tell me why Allen is listed twice...22% and then 11%? I know last year he received 11% of the vote so perhaps that's the confusion. Please clarify? Am passing this along to my doubting friends who have been listening to me talk about Allen '08 for 2 years now.

Just notice McCain is on here twice too...wish the 11% was the true number for McLame.

Elsewhere on the thread others have noted that the second listing was from '04. The site was not very clear about it...

That is a misposting, the 11% is last year's results. It was accidently amended to this years. Mccain and Allen both got in the 20's, and everybody else placed in the single digits.

It's bad... but it's still better than the sexually-challenged partner of a jerk-happy rapist.
