Small town usually not much stays private if own is active in the community.
If it was domestic then it is not as nerve wracking as a unknown shooter.
It is bad regardless.
I know our scanner has not stopped with calls to the tourist hotels and people intoxicated fighting.
LE has been busy. It is routine to run checks on everyone on any call good guy or the nuisance.
They get allot of criminals with warrants out on them that way.
Sorry you had to have the anxiety of a murder in your neighborhood esp a rural away from the inner city kinda place.

why does the video say Feb 2? Does Mesquite have its own police, or is it patrolled by a different city.

Time to call in CSI
I can't get the video from my machine. The Mesquite Police Department is fair size (building and jail ,parking lot take up 1/2 a block), but if you read the police blotter for the month, you'll see that Mayberry RFD had more crime than we do.
