It would be one thing if he was selling it. But this is just crazy.

What is this world coming to... It used to just be bags of Oregano. Now the kids are carrying fake bags of cocaine. Wow.
To: Revel
So...they're saying that they are punishing the kid because the school administration is too dumb to tell the difference between cocaine and confectioner's sugar?

I was just talking to my children about this, and I was wondering if there were a tv show that did this sort of thing recently. One child said Southpark has more than one episode where a kid takes fake drugs to school. I know he's only seen the show a few times, but yet he knows this. (he is 9) He said his friends watch the show all the time. He thinks he's seen it happen on another show, but older brother said he's wrong. I don't know. It just seems odd that there are a whole bunch of kids doing this in various parts of the country within a week or so of one another. Maybe some other FReeper could enlighten us all about this.

I agree with the arrest.
What need did he have to put powder sugar in a small baggie. He could have just brought a one pound box or bag.
What is he was really trying to sell it to other kids as cocaine? What if he thought others would respect him more if he was a drug dealer?
Zero tolerance of drugs is what we need in our schools.
I have seem many people say just kidding right after telling the truth about a crime they really did commit. He said cocaine he should have to live with the consequence. I do not buy the science project excuse and I guess neither did his science teacher. This is just a crying mom trying to protect her not so innocent child.

hmmmmm , I recall once [1976?] my Dad looking pale and saying he needed to talk to me as I returned home one day
... I had just got back from a sailboat delivery and Mom had done my laundry
... she found the small relish jar with baking soda & sea salt that I used to brush my teeth

The boy, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, said he brought the bag to school to ask his science teacher if he could run an experiment using sugar.
Uh
right. I also believe Al Gore or Hillary Clinton would make great presidents.

BRUSHFIRE UPDATE
It seems East Aurora District 131 School Superintendent Michael Radakovich got tired of hearing from all of you yesterday over his suspension of a 12-year-old kid who brought powdered sugar to school - or as the school district likes to call it, a "look-alike drug." He apparently shut off his email account just hours after our Brushfire Alert hit the 'net. However, his phone number appears to still be working: (630) 299-5554

What's the f***in' charge for getting thrown out of a moving car, huh? Jaywalking?

So according to the latest information, he DID bring it to school to claim it was cocaine and then to distribute it. The cover story about the science experiment was just that, a story.
