Exactly. And when the elitism is turned on solid conservatives whom Ann deigns inferior to herself, it really stinks.

You aren't suggesting that she's influenced by Maher, do you?

Many people don't understand what's been going on with Ann Coulter over the last six months or so; I think I do. Anyone familiar with The Conservative Bookshelf (2004)? It's a compilation of the best conservative literary works going all the way back to the Bible. Anyways, let me read you the germane portion of Booklist's review of TCB, since it is telling:

Williamson presents 50 selected books in declension of categories, beginning with theology and ending with contemporary affairs. Book number 1 is the Bible; book 50 is Treason, by Anne Coulter, despite her support of the Bush administration.

That's what I thought. The sentiment among some contemporary conservative thinkers--ones that don't have shows on FOXNews, so they're actually thinkers--was that Ann was merely a pale mouthpiece for an administration that was, at best, a little questionable with regard to its conservatism. Sure, it's easy to say, "Democrats bad, Republicans good," till you're ten shades of blue in the face; it is quite another to have real bona fides in the eyes of intellectual conservatives. It is also interesting to note that TCB was published in September of 2004, if only to establish a time line to present day.

Coincidence? Possibly, but there's something to be said for peer pressure.

That would be my guess.
