Cambridge, Md. -- The eavesdropping tables were turned on President Bush on Friday. The president apparently believed he was speaking privately when he talked about listening in without a warrant on domestic communications with suspected al-Qaida terrorists overseas. But reporters were the ones doing the listening in this time.

The incident happened at a House Republican retreat. After six minutes of public remarks by the president, reporters were ushered out. "I support the free press, let's just get them out of the room," Bush said,

Oh boy, this is really bad. Let's have a Congressional investigation initiated by a Republican!

I'm sure that Spincter will agree.

Amazing what makes a story when the press is offended.

From the article: "His private statements were basically no different from what he's said in public."

Did anyone get a picture of the press gnashing their teeth over the lack of deceit when overheard?

At least it wasn't anything like a "Naked Gun" bit like when Leslie Nielsen made some remarks at a luncheon for the Queen of England and then visits the urinal with his mike still on, whistling and grunting and yelping through his men's room visit.

It was a gotcha attempt that resulted in a non-gotcha about a non-gotcha story.

Got that?

LOL. The president knows it's impossible for conversations to remain private. It seems there is zero honor in Washington.

I toured the US Capitol eons ago. I forgot the persons involved, but when business was done in the dome itself,
the opposition party would conspire at one, whispering strategies. The acoustics are such that it could be heard
at the other end.

Okay, so it stayed in the room, but it's a big room...

In other words, nothing new.

Due to the improper nature of eavesdropping, why did the press report what they heard, and didn't they immediately leave the room and tell the White House to turn off the microphone?

It's "news" because the AP says it's news.

But I agree that what the President said is no different that what he says in public. We all know he holds a lot of disdain for the press - while still supporting a "free press".

The mic stayed on for a few minutes and all they quoted was a line about keeping it in this room?

And why does the AP consider this news?

Good question. If you going after Bush, at least use something substantiative, of which there is plenty. The problem is, any Bush policy that would merit a substantiative objection that we would make is also wanted by the democrats, liberals in general, and the press.

I listened to the so called open mic comments and heard nothing that couldn't have been heard by the public. The liberal media deserves every bit of criticism it gets either overtly or covertly.

Because they are fundamentally dishonest, dishonorable people, and they think (with good reason) that they can get away with anything.
