White House seeking a retraction from NYT: Bush was 'on vacation in Texas' Fri Feb 10 2006 09:46:25 ET

NEW YORK TIMES’ Eric Lipton today writes that President Bush was “on vacation in Texas” on August 30th but their own reporter filed a pool report that day from San Diego where POTUS giving a speech on the War on Terror and was visiting soldiers and families of the fallen. Sources tell DRUDGE that the original story filed by Lipton did not contain the sentence about Bush being on vacation and that it was added by an editor.

The White House is seeking a retraction.

Developing...

Pool Report #2 (from August 30, 2005) Chaos briefly reigned. After conducting an interview with the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service at a cargo plane hangar near the previous event, President Bush arrived at the Naval Medical Center San Diego on schedule, and proceded to the first event, a meeting with health care providers that was supposed to last a half hour and include a photo op at the bottom. Instead, moments after arrival, the pool was rushed to the door and told the photo op would take place immediately. Then, just as suddenly, it was canceled without explanation. Minutes later – about an hour ahead of schedule, and equally suddenly – the pool was rounded up and rushed back to the motorcade for departure. It is now 11:21 AM local time and we are heading toward the airport. More to come.

I dont see the problem here, Everyone knows the New York Times is a work of fiction anyway. If they dont have a story they make one up.

I think the key fact will be: did Bush spend any part of that day at his home in Texas. If he did, the NYT "wins". But I think it's ridiculous to carp about his being at his Texas home as a "vacation". He's on duty wherever he is.

Telling.

Any chance that this editor will be named or better yet, made to account for this fabrication?

Naaaaaaaa.

George's TEETH were still in Texas, so NYT is absolutely correct!

This post should be pulled as the NYTimes is not a credible news source.

What's the problem? "Fake but accurate", right? They don't have to tell the truth as long as they convey the deeper truth that Bush is a moronic lying scoundrel who would be devious but isn't smart enough.

In other words, Look for either NO rectraction or a weaselly pseudo retraction.

New York times should be used to retracting their stories.. Searching for the term 'Retraction' on NYTimes.com pulls up over thirteen thousand hits.

True, but the more light you shine on these cockroaches the more you drive them into the shadows.

New York Times editors must spend their off time at DU or moveon.org.

NEW YORK TIMES’ Eric Lipton today writes that President Bush was “on vacation in Texas” on August 30th

The retraction won't matter because the NY Times will still be able to point out that the president wasn't down in New Orleans on a boat distributing food and saving people from drowning. Better yet, the NYT will also be able to show a picture of a large number of buses stuck deep in water that the president failed to use to transport the citizens of NO to safer ground.

The NYT bathhouse boys and their editors, the NOW gang, have run a political campaign 24/7, for 30 years running.

These commie-vampires need a stake thru the heart.

Actually, I heard that George personally wrestled Nagin and company to the ground and locked them in closet so they couldn't take charge and get things done. That's why the busses got flooded.

You must've read that in a NYT story, right?

This is not about being on vacation imo. It's about putting them on notice.

The administration is ready to hit back. Not because it's personal, but because they believe there is something big at stake here—US security.

It's going to be an interesting Spring.
