People can look at identical data and draw totally different conclusions.
A major warming trend that was greater than anything experienced in the past 1,200 doesn't necessarily indicate human activity contributed to this.
1,200 years is a mere drop in the bucket of geological time.
Unless they can execute studies over a much longer period of time to indicate that no similar warming period occurred, they can't present this as anything abnormal.
EVEN IF THEY CAN, the jury is STILL out as to whether or not this is due to human activity, as a recent Russian astrophysicist indicated SOLAR activity may have a lot more to do with "global warming" which is actually not a new idea.
Solar activity linked to the absence of sunspots is suppsoedly a possible cause for ice ages.

If I recall correctly, the 10th through 19th centuries was called the "Mini Ice Age," where diseases ran rampant and a third of the world's population perished due to bubonic plague.
Looks like the enviro-wackos are just pining away for the good ole days...

A typical response for the Conservative side of the house. Let me give you a bit of anecdotal information, I live in the Midwest and for three years we have had warmer than average winters. This year in particular the temp has been at times 20 degrees above normal. I don't think this constitutes a trend but it is a sign post if it continues.
Conservative have few undeniable flaws which are short slightness and blindness. Some of us will deny something is wrong because it threatens the status quo so long that doing something about a problems becomes impossible. In particular, these flaws come to the surface when comes to the environment. The assumption is "There go those tree hugging environmentalist again. They just was to take our cars away and impede business." Lets assume the tree huggers are right, do you want to wait until Florida, California and the Gulf Coast are all flood permanently before we do something or wait until the winter get so mild we see 70 degree temps in North Dakota during the winter?

"This latest paper might be the nail in the coffin for the small minority of very vocal climate change denialists who continue to challenge the conclusion that the recent warming of the Earth's surface is out of the ordinary," Mann said. These people don't listen to what is actually being said do they?

Let's see, scientists are looking at tree rings for past indicators of warmth. In the past century, thermometers and satellites were invented. Scientists now compare the data from tree stumps and new technology as equal indicators and say that temperatures now are not normal. I'm sure they are 100% right.

And the problem with warm winters are...?
To: soloNYer
PS: I bet if the situation were reversed, and most Republicans or conservatives said global warming was man's fault, and liberals said global warming was natural or was not provable, these scientists' analysis of data would be much different...as they would be trying to prove the opposite outcome.

I live in the Midwest and for three years we have had warmer than average winters. I've actually enjoyed the warmer winters. Do you remember the Chicago blizzard of '67?
