SACRAMENTO – Republican activists are gaining ground in a bid to get their party to denounce Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's spending policies. The chairman of the state party has agreed to help get three draft resolutions against the governor's budget, public-works and minimum-wage-increase proposals a "full and fair hearing" at the Feb. 24-26 GOP convention in San Jose.
A controversial draft resolution - chastising Schwarzenegger's appointment of dozens of non-Republican judges to the bench - gained a key endorsement Wednesday by the California Republican Lawyers Association. "As the only chartered Republican lawyers organization in the state, we had to take a position," said association president Steve Baric of Rancho Santa Margarita. "We believe the governor as a Republican should be appointing more Republican judges.
The resolutions are more of a political slap than a real threat to Schwarzenegger's agenda, some political analysts say. Although the governor needs Republican support to get the two-thirds majority vote that he needs on his budget- and bond-related measures, many GOP legislators have already raised their voices against parts of Schwarzenegger's infrastructure plan and budget, they explain.

Its way to easy being a Rat in California.
It sounds as if they can't make up their minds what to do.
Almost everything Schwartzenegger has done has been lousy. The party has really been shafted.
Not smart.
Tom McClintock's letter to the Members of the CA Republican Party
... when I hear rumors that some delegates are planning to use the upcoming Republican Party convention to attack the Governor and his proposals, all I can do is shake my head.
Like many of us, I too have disagreements with some of the Governor's proposals. These differences, however, do not justify the abandonment of our party's responsibility to work tirelessly to reelect this Republican governor and to elect our GOP candidates to statewide and legislative offices.
For this reason, I view any effort to attack Governor Schwarzenegger as an attack on my own candidacy and those of every Republican seeking partisan office in 2006.
Please join me in calling for a productive, united convention that will lead to the Governor's re-election as well as the election of our statewide ticket of talented Republican leaders. And join me by rejecting any misguided effort to divide us by rescinding the party's endorsement of our Governor.
I believe it is critically important to all of our Republican candidates to have an effective, unified party convention that sets the course clearly toward building and equipping our grassroots army to deliver a great Republican victory this November.
Why would Republicans re-elect a Democrat simply because he calls himself a Republican?
It makes no sense.
What does make sense is that other politicians are hoping for a boost, financial and otherwise, from the incumbent celebrity movie star. McClintock may envision himself the "heir apparent" to the governor's throne, and Schwarzenegger's support will be crucial if and when that time finally arrives. Meanwhile, looking to the future, Tom will hold his nose and "support" Arnold. It's a simple matter of pragmatism and smart politics.
For those not familiar with this tactic the subscription is here to drive wedges between elected Republican conservatives and their supporters. This particular piece of spam is repeatedly posted to accomplish that aim.
To answer the rhetorical question posed by the spammer:
On this issue, NO, grass roots conservatives don't. On this issue, the Senator has become part of the problem, actively advancing a CRP agenda at the expense of traditional CRP values.
Nice try Doc.
For those not familiar with this old ploy Doc is trying to confuse Republicans with conservatives on a conservative forum.
To answer your question Doc. Conservatives frequently reject Republican Party candidates when they support a liberal agenda.
More rising GOP stars are on their way to California to help try to re-elect Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (D-CA).
Bush aide Steve Schmidt will manage Schwarzenneger's campaign; strategist Matthew Dowd will handle polling; Katie Levinson, formerly the director of television at both the RNC and the White House, will serve as communications director and Matt McDonald, who ran rapid response operations at the White House, will do the same for the campaign.
Now, Sarah Simmons, a top aide to DCoS Karl Rove, is headed to Sacramento. She'll work with Dowd.
Why mention this? Because it proves a point.
The slate of Democrat candidates is so weak in the November race that almost any Republican could beat them. That's why the gang raced to close the Republican primary so long ago.
Even a Republican, with marginal support from his traditional party base, will beat the Democrat pretenders who aren't even well liked in their own party. It's the recall in redux and Rove, Parsky and Wilson know it.
That the Republican faithful didn't realize this until after they had been bamboozled is $1M question.
"The slate of Democrat candidates is so weak in the November race that almost any Republican could beat them. "
===
That's what some said, when they voted for Simon in the primary, who was beaten like a drum, by Davis.
We all know the Demographics -- NO Republican can win in CA, without the support of moderates and Democrats.
CALIFORNIA VOTER AND PARTY PROFILES
http://www.ppic.org/content/pubs/JTF_VoterProfilesJTF.pdf
"The Democratic Party currently has an advantage of 1.4 million voters over the Republican Party (7.1 million to 5.7 million) or 9 percentage points (43% to 34%), according to the Secretary of State.
Among those most likely to vote in this years elections, Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 7-point margin (44% to 37%), while 15 percent of likely voters are registered as independents.
... the fact that independents are more likely to lean toward Democrats than Republicans (42% to 28%) tends to work to the disadvantage of the GOP in statewide elections."
Well, there are NO conservative Democrats in CA.
And he'll probably retain Arnold's left-wing appointees.
Those pesky ltttle facts. Ruins a good yarn every time.
You never explain why the Gub ran as a Republican but has advanced as much liberalism and LGBT agenda as any democrat has even tried to and he has done it arrogantly and without fail..
You are misrepresenting Arnold's governance and you know it.
If you really believe that Arnold was not different than Davis, you might as well re-register as Democrat and vote openly for Angelides.
Hell, If I am correct as I have posited for some time, it is you and yours truly that have voted for a demRat and were too blind to recognize it.
Hint,, check out what he does with his hands and not what he says, hype is just that, hype. It'll make it easier for you to figure it out , if you really want to be fair about assessing what has happened so far..
