Not that it's exactly what this thread was about, but I don't think we need clubs promoting sex of any kind in public schools.
In our state, the General Assembly has proposed a law so that parents can limit/control which school clubs their children belong to. Perhaps you and other like-minded parents could propose such a law in your state?
As far as I know, there are no clubs promoting sex other than homosexual sex in government schools, and it is GLSEN and their ilk. Of course no club should support sex in government school. No seminar should be allowed that promotes homosexuality.
I read about that proposed law and agree with it.
[Your reply] Not that it's exactly what this thread was about, .....
This is what the thread is about:
[quoting article]
According to Burrows, his son was instructed by two openly homosexual staff members of the Governor's School to question his sexuality as well as Bible passages that condemn homosexuality. And the students were also encouraged by instructors to start a Gay Straight Alliance club at their schools, he says.
Maybe not exactly about GLSEN.......but close enough.
Now, what do you think of GLSEN? Should they, and other openly homosexual adults like the two instructors in the quote above, be present in the schools, giving students sex instruction their way?
The money quote in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution story you linked to is this one:
The new bill requires schools to notify parents of student clubs and gives them an "opportunity" to "withhold permission" for their children. It does not specify how parents are expected to notify schools of their views......
Changes in the House bill place the responsibility on parents, rather than schools, which would have had to obtain written permission for each student who joined a club under the initial version.
The Senate bill still places the responsibility on schools.
Under the bill being reported on, in its state House version, then, local school administrators could still enroll kids in Gay-Straight Alliances, and put the onus on the parents find out on their own that their kids were involved in such an activity.
Which, we can see from my previous quote of the thread's topical article, the father of the boy in question was at some pains to extract from his son after a long conversation.
IOW, the change proposed by the House in response to professional educators, represented by their golem quoted elsewhere in the article, is subversive of the parents' desire to keep their children away from the Gay-Straight Alliance organizers.
By the way, since you brought it up, you are affiliated, are you not, with the organization whose spokesman was quoted in the AJC article? That is, Jim Puckett, "executive director of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders." Who said, quoting the article quoting him,
We're strong advocates of local control....
Local control to us means the ... school employees that are close to those issues should make those decisions....
The article noted that the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders advocates "school employees" make "those decisions" -- such as letting adult homosexuals enter the schools to recruit kids and teach "tolerance", their way. Which, by the way, is Marcusian tolerance -- no toleration for conservatives or Christians -- but that's a topic for another thread.
Are you affiliated with the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders?
Do you support their position on this legislation that you just recommended to Penni?
Where are you on the issue of adult homosexuals being admitted to the schools, as GLSEN representatives, as Governor's School instructors, as youth counselors, or as outside counselors to, or sponsors of, a Gay-Straight Alliance, to give sex-education instruction to students?
Are you affiliated, associated, or involved with GLSEN, with GLAAD, with the HRC, with PFLAG, or with a Gay-Straight Alliance?
You got some 'splainin' to do......
