I don't really see what connection Catholic beliefs regarding Holy Communion have with slicing open a baby's head and letting the blood run down his face, however

My point was that this Shi'ite custom seems strange, but you also may have customs that others see as just as strange. Don't judge or condemn an entire sect or religion based on a strange custom.

There are many "strange customs" in the world. Slicing a baby's head open with a knife to commemorate a military defeat 1000 years ago is not a "strange custom," it's barbaric and cruel.

Strange? Strange is dyeing you hair pink and thinking you look good; strange is having your lips injected with collagen until you look like a fish; strange is enjoying the taste of sushi. Cutting ones self or child in the name of "Mohammad" (fleas be upon him) is evil, demonic and from the pit of hell itself. Lets have the courage to call it what it is.

Agreed.

We have our own very strange customs too, like "Little Miss" pageants and songs about being washed in blood.

As a kid, those songs scared me to death!
